| Boy's high school? | By Ken Arnott
A gentleman from Nottingham has written to me asking if I or anyone else had knowledge of ‘a Boys’ high School’ in Cliff Terrace around 1901, when the Master was a Mr John Page and the Assistant Master was a Mr Charles Sturey.
It was a small private school with fourteen boys, all boarders, aged 10-14, among them a Samuel E Weston, the father of my correspondent Mr Geoff Weston of 8 Cranbourne Close Nottingham NG9 3RH.

| A whole year of September! | By Robert Coleman & Dave Hawkins
Titchwell Marsh RSPB
Titchwell Marsh is a great place to visit at any time of year, but for us September is the highlight of the whole year. There are still a few lingering summer visitors around to enjoy such as swallows and warblers, at the beginning of the month wading bird migration is at it’s peak and by month end winter visitors such as pink-footed geese begin to arrive in numbers. Throw in the chance of a few rare birds driven here by autumn ... Read More >> |

The sponsored walk to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings started at Heacham War Memorial where we observed a two minute silence and the exhortation was read. From there we progressed to Heacham Social club to be met by the Borough Mayor and Mayoress together with committee member Mrs Campbell. After a short refreshment break we walked to Hunstanton via the Fox and Hounds and the West Norfolk collecting en-route, and I should like to thank everyone who ... Read More >> |

| News from Heacham slimming world |
By Julie Goddard, Slimming World Consultant
The summer is almost over again as I write this and soon our thoughts will be turning to Autumn and misty mornings and chilly evenings. Dare I mention it we have only 16 weeks to Christmas! Holidays are over for most of us and the children are going back to school. What better time to think about losing a few pounds - or stones as the case may be. Just 1lb a week will show a weight loss of over a stone before Christmas.
No need to feel nervou... Read More >> |

September is an intriguing month. Anglo Saxons simply called it Gerst Monath (Barley Month) or Haefest Monath (Harvest Month). This is reflected year by year as Churches hold their Harvest Festivals in praise of God’s faithfulness in the seasonal provision of food from the fields.
Did you know that September always begins on the same day as December of any year. For history buffs the year 1752 should ring a bell. There was absolutely nothing happening b... Read More >> |

| Yet more wolves in Hunstanton | By John Smith
Congratulations to all those concerned with the two “In Bloom” competitions – let’s hope for some more medals! I was especially pleased to have had the opportunity to meet the two judges from the Royal Horticultural Society and to give them some background information about St. Edmund’s landing, the Chapel and especially the new wolf sculpture set in a new garden in the chapel ruins.
This garden was planted especially for the “In Bloom” competitions as part of ... Read More >> |

We are truly privileged to live in such a beautiful part of England’s ‘green and pleasant land’ - surrounded by marvellous countryside, enjoying such excellent beach and seaside amenities and arguably some of the best sunset views in England.

Our Car Boot Sales at the Glebe School have proved to be a great success this year. There are still some more to go on August 30th and September 6th. We are glad that we’ve now been able to re-establish these after a “year out”. Both stall holders and visitors have been very grateful for their return.
The raffle for a pair of super “Bottecchia 803” road bicycles may now have sold out by the time this magazine is published, so in the ... Read More >> |

| Carnival day in Sunny Hunny | The Carnival has been. What a day of fun
on Hunst’on Green. With lots and lots of sun
an early start to get every thing ready
all up with the lark and had an early breaky.
It started with Pub Wars; games for all.
Four teams in the tug of war, big and small.
The sack race and egg race made them trot.
All that welly wanging was the best of the lot.
Then came the bands and the other displays;
with dogs in the arena going all ways.
The fair in the corner, the kids loved it ... Read More >> |

On the week – end 25th/26th July ten members of the Leighton Linslade Croquet Club from Bedfordshire journeyed to Hunstanton for a friendly fixture against the Hunstanton Croquet Club. The visitors were impressed with the home clubs facilities and commented that the 45 games played on the Saturday would have taken them all the week – end on their own two lawns.
Both teams assembled at 10 am on Saturday morning that had dawned on one of the few beautiful days... Read More >> |

By Norman C. Whye
The rules and regulations, governing the use of inflammable liquids and corrosive substances, were apparent, but not so strictly enforced as they are today. We were, of course educated in the correct use of the components in the motor trade, and further schooling was taught in the college, where we went on day release scheme. However, we were also encouraged to not be backwards in coming forwards, and to use our newly gained skills in carrying out the jobs that we had be... Read More >> |

This time last year Unitary was high on the agenda and this year, the Town Councillors were awaiting with interest the latest decision of the Boundary Committee to the Secretary of State. Having made a short visit to my old home town I was interested to catch up with recent happenings through the Newsletter. I particularly noted the item in the July edition on John Kew and his business on Greevegate.
This brought back memories of my father, Vern Wilson, who had the shop next door which he took over from his father, Samuel Wilson. Sam had some similar working life connections to John Kew in that he worked at Donaldsons in... Read More >> |

| Beating the taxman | By Robin Sainty
As most people are aware, the lump sum death benefit from a UK registered pension scheme can be paid free of Inheritance Tax. This can be a significant benefit, given that the accrued fund is often a very significant amount. However, for some couples, particularly those who have both enjoyed high levels of income, accumulated significant assets and made separate pension provision this can actually create a greater problem for the recipient and his or her family further dow... The numbers of cases of swine flu in Britain are relatively few and mild at the moment. However, the British Government and World Health Organisation are taking the H1N1 virus seriously. Flu friends could collect medicines, food and other essential supplies for you if you are ill. It is importa... Read More >> |

The EU Commission is just about to embark on yet another painstaking review of that hallowed shrine of the European Union – the Farm Support Policy. This perpetual monolith of what is better known as the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has had more incarnations, over the years, than Dr Who.
