Little memories of a seaside childhood

- The Fairground

Norman Whye

The fairground on the south end of the promenade, had always created a magnetic fascination for us kids, and I remember being taken to the fairground, and shown a miniature working model of a coalmine. On the insertion of one penny, the mine would come into operation, sacks of coal would appear, workers on the ground would operate little shovels, out of the mouth of the pit would appear little trucks and tip their coal contents to form a pile, and workmen wou

A Traveller's Tales - by a Wayfarer

14 End of the line - or All Change?

It is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgement” - so the King James Version of the Bible renders Hebrews Chapter 9 verse 27. Surely some of the most challenging - if not chilling - words in the Bible.

Over the past year or two I have been on a journey very different to any I have been on before. This has been and is an internal journey for me - no longer as the wayfarer/observer but as an active participant. I also recognise that ...

Summer Holidays

Daniel Holland assistant pastor at The Way

As I write this article my wife and I are looking forward to our annual August trip to Scotland. We love to get into the heart of the Highlands, finding deserted spots along the single track roads and hiking tracks that criss-cross the mountains, glens and braes. We both have busy, people intensive lives and the contrast of our holiday naturally makes us reflect on our lives and what we are doing. This holiday has become a fulcrum of our year. Someti...

Greetings from the manse

In the years after 1611 the text of the King James Bible was produced in different centres by different printers, consequently ssuccessive printings of the Authorized Version were notably less careful than the 1611 edition had been, compositors freely varying spelling, capitalization and punctuation and also over the years, introducing about 1,500 misprints. One edition of 1631had the omitted the "not" from the commandment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” earning the name “Wicked Bibl...

Having read the books of course we knew what was coming in the films, only of course film makers often change the story line, including completely omitting some of the characters. Harry Potter lends itself immediately to all of the current ef...
