| Borough & Town Councillor's notes |
Richard Bird
This last month has been very busy with casework; this is when individuals come to a councillor for assistance with a specific problem or challenge. Just recently people have come to me with issues about medical, financial and legal problems. Some of these issues are way beyond my personal ability but hopefully with the help of professionals the matters can be resolved.
Kate Dunbar is putting a presentation together for the Community Orchard programme to win over the purse-hold... Read More >> |

On 18th August 1898 the Mayor of King’s Lynn invited Sir Edward Birkbeck, Chairman of the Royal Nation Lifeboat Institution, to a public meeting at Lynn Town Hall for the purpose of inaugurating a lifeboat day on Wednesday 28th September 1898. This would be a way of thanking the Hunstanton Lifeboat crew on behalf of all the local seafarers when there would be a procession round the town from 3pm to 4pm, followed by the launching of the lifeboat in the river Ouse. | Meet the producer: |
Simon Dann & Norfolk Farmhouse Ice Cream
Norfolk isn’t really associated with dairy farming, particularly now that it is less and less viable for farmers to include small dairy herds in a mixed farm. The costs of production together with the low price offered to farmers for their milk, however well it is produced, make it impossible to continue if you are only producing milk to sell as it is. To keep their dairy production viable farmers pretty much have to make something more than jus... Read More >> |

This month I have been very conscious of the talents of local people, particularly in the field of the Arts.
The Town has a thriving Festival of Arts, and I have been invited to many events under this umbrella, including Drama, Dance, Music and Musical Theatre. The range of what has been on offer is truly staggering and a great credit not only to those who have performed, but also to those who have supported them in their efforts. In particular the young people of the Town ... Read More >> |

Well we have been having some much needed rain and one or two terrific thunderstorms. I am sorry but I do love a good thunderstorm, I think it’s the glory of the power of the clouds plus a tingle of fear at being exposed to the elements. I was at NOA doing a moth check during the Tuesday storm at the end of June. I must admit I felt pretty vulnerable as I walked along the path to the moth traps. I was crouching by the Ringing Shed when there was one fantastic crack; I nearly jumped ... Read More >> |

On the television, recently, I saw an advertisement with the slogan, “Joy Overflows…” – if you buy this particular make of car. (I’d better not name it or I would be advertising!) I’d like, however, to advertise how you can have Joy Everlasting, but it cannot be bought. Material things may give you joy for a time but, especially with a car, joy will not be felt if it fails its MOT, is involved in an accident or other mishaps occur.
However, we read in the Bible that... Read More >> |

(Leader - The Way Christian Fellowship)
One of our friends keeps telling us ‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch’. He is referring back to the days in the 70’s and 80’s when there was a heightened fear of corruption in commerce. It was said that you couldn’t accept a meal from a supplier for fear it might lead to corrupt business deals. The implication was that nobody could give anything without there being an ulterior motive. There had to be some angle, some hid... Read More >> |

Never-the-less if something appears on the internet it must be true. Mustn’t it? Simple answer. Of course not, ... Read More >> |

I have to admit I had never come across Golf Croquet before. I suspect this is true for many others, who maybe played the game a long while ago. This version is much quicker, much more sociable, but just as vicious! As a result it now dominates the game. From a spectator’s point of view, this makes it much more approachable, and it has had a positive effect on the number young people playing. This was very obvious this week, where the level of skill shown by all the competitors ... Read More >> |

It has been an exciting couple of months for our visitors and staff: bird-wise, news has been dominated by the area’s bittern baby-boom, with 4 bittern young sighted amongst the reeds. It has also been a good time for our marsh harriers – the young have been testing out the... Read More >> |
