| Hunstanton Catholic Parish |
I am writing this at the beginning of Lent – Ash Wednesday – but I am aware that by the time you read it we will be at, or past, Mid-Lent – Mothering Sunday, the day when Catholics are, or were, encouraged to attend their Mother church. Perhaps all the parishioners of Our Lady & St. Edmund and St. Cecilia should attend Our Lady of the Annunciation in King's Lynn as our Mother Church, from which the local Catholic parishes have grown.
Our parish preceded its Lenten Observance with a ... Read More >> |

Dear friends,
St Augustine wrote “We are an Easter people, and Alleluia is our song!”
Familiarity can breed contempt, as the saying goes. Christian people are like everyone else, and we often forget what we believe God calls us to proclaim. The churches festivals are like birthdays: special days to remember particular people or something about our faith. Holy Week is the week which leads up to Easter, it begins on Palm Sunday and encompasses Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday al... Read More >> |

Minister of Union Church
As I look forward to Easter with its meaning symbolised in hot cross buns, eggs and bunnies I am preparing to preach on themes such as the love of God demonstrated in the death of Jesus, upon new life, and future hope and security.
The news reports of earth quakes, tsunamis and people dying are filling television and radio broadcasts. In North Africa nations are in revolt. Suffering and bad news seems to be all that we hearing about. When the news headlines become... Read More >> |

One thing we mustn’t do as we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible is to “let its light be hidden under a bushel.” This of course is one of the very many and greatly loved phrases and idioms from the 1611 Bible that have become part of our language. Others would include let there be light", "am I my brother's keeper?", "be fruitful and multiply", "pillar of salt", "bald as a coot", "let my people go", "by the skin of my teeth", "tender mercies", "the spirit is willing"... | Royal Wedding |
Gill Tanner (co-leader of The Way Christian Fellowship)
Romance, flowers, beautiful clothes, a banquet. Weddings are celebrations of love and commitment. The marriage of our future king to his ‘princess’ is reason to celebrate in an otherwise difficult time for many.
It seemed an appropriate time to look at Christian marriage as the monarch is also head of the Church of England. As culture changes, ideas of morality change. We have changed our minds on many things over the last decades,... Read More >> |

Three weeks pocket money and only 1p change! This “Donkey” is a bit heavy but I love it.
Good job Mum paid for us to go to the Pantomime, otherwise I would have been in hock for ages.
It was called “Robin Hood” I loved the “mouse” dancers and the children singing, not so sure when the baddie Sherriff came on, all the youngsters in the audience boo’d and hissed.
I got my own back though, I growled quietly when “Silly Billy” came on (brother of Robin Ho... Read More >> |

Half a century ago Hunstanton’s population increased from 3,361 in 1951 to 4,840 in 1961 thanks to the “invasion2 of American servicemen based at Sculthorpe who decided to take up residence in the town.
The effect, as one can imagine, was to boost local trade by a considerable margin. There were problems. Our American visitors were used to self-service but we had no supermarkets in those days - the Co-op in Westgate being possibly the nearest thing - and they found themselve... Read More >> |
