Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company

By Sandra Hohol

The Johnny Cash Show at the Princess Theatre,  starring one of our Patrons, Roger Dean, was the venue for the last performance for our youngsters when they joined him on stage to sing a few of Johnny Cash’s songs, plus one of their own.  There were a few new faces in our group so this was quite daunting for them, being their first time in front of all the lights and audience.  Nothing seems to phase the group – they rehearsed once with Roger prior to the show and th...

Well, this year is regretfully drawing to a close. We know this because we held the draw for the two great bicycles that were the prize in our 2009 Raffle. This draw took place at our Car Boot Sale on Sunday October 11th, and was kindly drawn by Christine Earnshaw, our Mayor. The pair of ladies and gentlemen’s  “Bottecchia 803” road bicycles were won by Angela Churchman of Snettisham and we’re sure that Angela will have many, many years of miles ahead. Well done, and many thanks to al...

There are little eyes upon you and they are watching night and day.

There are little ears that quickly take in every word you say.

There are little hands all eager to do everything you do;

And a little girl who’s dreaming of the day she’ll be like you.

You’re the little girl’s idol; you’re the wisest of the wise;

In her little mind about you no suspicions ever rise.

There’s a wide-eyed little person who believes you're always right;

And her ears are alwa...

We also in September voted for our Woman of The Year and our winner was Una Lawrence, one of our not so young members who has lost an amazing 5 stone and looks terrific.

The Military Display – The Great Panjandrum, Blacker Bombard and Machine guns

On some Sunday mornings during the war it was not unusual for the Hunstanton Home Guard unit to parade at the top of the Green outside the Town Hall.  This parade was always of interest to us for as small boys, we knew the identity of the khaki dressed soldiers and their civilian activities during the working week. Their uniform, however, was n...

Save money - don't waste it

Ways of saving money are high on most people’s agenda at the moment and yet there is a simple thing that can be easily done by nearly every household in the UK, that could save over £800 a year.

Question:  HOW? Answer: Switch your telephony and energy provider to another company.

It is a proven fact that BT and the “Big 6” energy providers are charging you far too much for the services they provide. Indeed Watchdog during October revealed that none of them has reduced charges when...

An interesting option for cautious investor

By Robin Sainty

Those of you who know me will be aware that I’m not keen on structured products, where one company offers a guarantee which is dependent upon a third party. The dangers of this approach was well illustrated during the credit crunch when it came to light that Lehman Brothers were one company from whom insurers were purchasing such guarantees!

              However, I have been very excited by a new offering from Zurich, which follows similar lines but with ...

Local prisons and punishment

By Jim Welham

In the early days, when communities were obliged to deal with their own criminals, punishment had to be acceptable, swift and cheap and the penalty would usually be a fine, mutilation or death. Most local executions took place in the Tuesday Market Place, Kings Lynn, when the condemned would be hanged, burnt, or in at least one case, boiled to death. The only remaining indication of such horrors is of a dubious nature. Above the upper floor window between numbers 15 and 16 at ...

A traveller's tales

2  Where are we going?

“Siganme !” - the word almost jumped up off the road at us. It was 1989, the height of Argentina’s Presidential election campaigning and we were driving along the main thoroughfare of Mar del Plata, one of the largest cities in the Province of Buenos Aires. The enthusiastic supporters of Carlos Menem had taken his campaign slogan to the streets - literally - painting the words on all the major roads in their efforts to persuade the people th...

What food really costs

WHAT YOUR FOOD REALLY COSTS.....

By Joe Parker, agricultural ‘expert’

To provide customers with the huge variety of inexpensive food that they offer, supermarkets are ruthlessly exploiting their effective monopoly as the biggest buyers of food. They can dictate how, where, when, and for how much, their food is produced, packaged, stored and delivered. This is monitored by a sophisticated system of specifications and tight managerial control, including direct contracts with se...

I see people for a variety of different issues but the subject of motivation always comes up.  Virtually every issue I work with will require the individuals to make some changes or take action of some kind.  Inevitably this requires motivation.  This level of motivation can determine how successful the person will be.

One important function of our subconscious mind is to protect us from danger.  Very often this danger ...

The congregation leaves the church,

Shuffles in line along the gravelled path

To reach the Cenotaph

In noise, pain, terror

On the battlefield;

Or, instead, rescued from that Hell

To dwell for ever in disabled bodies

While endless scenes of horror

Play constant havoc in their minds,

With every sudden sound

And for years it's been the subject of much
