| Letters to the editor |
Norfolk Libraries
I am truly sorry to have upset P. Hurst in my letter published in the March issue where I criticised the new self service library system. I think the Norfolk Libraries are a wonderful institution, they are well stocked & the staff are knowledgeable & helpful. I particularly like being able to borrow or return to any of the many Norfolk branches. I do however stand by my assertion that the new system is a joke & a mistake, though to be fair the machines have been ... Read More >> |

Since 2001 Heacham and Hunstanton businesses and organisations have benefitted from the growth and development of first Heacham-On-Line then Hunstanton-On-Line with each site achieving more than 350,000 hits per annum in recent years. This kind of success led to the recent redevelopment of both sites in order to better promote the sunset coastline of Norfolk.

| Rev David J Hulse of Union Church |
Is it not true that there are some things in life that seem totally reliable? Things that we hold in trust having never once questioned their integrity! Recently I read an article which reported how an Australian scientist from Queensland consulted the Oxford Dictionary just to check the word ‘siphon’ for inclusion in a paper he was writing a paper about how siphons work. They are commonly used to empty containers like petrol tanks. Dr Stephen Hughes was staggered to find that th... Read More >> |

| Hunstanton catholic parish | (Church of Our Lady and St Edmund, Sandringham Road, with St Cecilia’s, Dersingham)
At the time of writing, we are looking forward to the feast of Pentecost – which is the birthday of the Church. On the first Pentecost, the Holy Spirit transformed the timid followers of Jesus into fearless proclaimers of the Good News of the Kingdom of God. This same Spirit continues to empower the Church, even in difficult times, and we look forward to celebrating this fact with our fellow Christ... Read More >> |

| Greetings from the manse |
The Venerable Bede Bede was born in Northumberland in the year 673 A.D. and became a monk at Jarrow. Here he passed the whole of the rest of his life. The name
probably derives from the Old English bēd, the verb being “biddan”, which means to
pray, and if it was the name given Bede at birth, it probably meant that his family had planned on his entering the clergy from birth. He said of himself: “I have devoted my energies to the study of the Scriptures. Studying, writing have always... Read More >> |

| June at the way |
Gordon Tanner
Some may say our arrangements are haphazard, but as a Christian Fellowship we deliberately don’t plan in too much detail in order to allow space for God’s spirit to move. There have been times when we’ve changed from the planned speaker at short notice. Rather we have sort of skeletal framework within which our meetings occur, So normally we can but give a brief outline of our plans. As a routine we meet at 11.00am on Sundays and have meal together afterwards for thos... Read More >> |

| From St Edmund's parish church |
Dear friends,
In Hunstanton we tend to think that those who make their home here in retirement will be here for good. Alas it is not always so, and from time to time we have to say goodbye to friends who move away from the town; usually to be nearer members of their families. Over the past few months we said goodbye to two regular members of St Edmund’s. And over the next few months three more members are going to leave us. All for the same reason: to be nearer the family.
I should lik... Read More >> |

As the cold winds of spring retreat we are looking forward to events which have been organised over the winter. The Civic Society programme of talks has now ended for this season but Brian Holmes our talks organiser has been busy arranging an exciting range of topics for the 2010/11 season. | Blue flags - but muddy waters |
Turnstone
In a week that saw the Blue Flag proclaiming safe bathing at Hunstanton, the new Town Mayor had to navigate his way through some muddy water as he made a firm start following his election on May 14th. Faced with a packed council chamber, Cllr Peter Mallam suspended Standing Orders to allow residents of Seagate Road to voice their objections to a revised planning application for a block of apartments on the Kit Kat site.
To their credit, the town councillors listened ... Read More >> |

The Skeleton in my Cupboard
Kingsley Pearce
All of us have heard of a skeleton in the cupboard, and few of us would admit to having one. However, I would readily admit to having had one. My remembrance of the curious events relating to my skeleton was again in the early war years. At that time I was living with grandfather in his house, which had five bedrooms and an attic bedroom. The house was then mainly lit by gas and, as I remember, about to have electric lighting installed. Can... Read More >> |

You keep me calm when I want to shout,
You make me laugh when I feel like crying,

Gave me a voice with which to speak.
