OCT 11 Royal British Legion Remembrancetide 2011
Roy Evans
Once again it is coming to that time of the year when we all remember those Heroes who have served our country in the past and present.
As I am sure that most people know that the Royal British Legion is the leading charitable organisation supporting our Hero’s both serving and ex-service and their families. Remembrancetide is the time of year when the Legion is allowed to fund raise though the Poppy Appeal. Remembrance Period runs this year from the 29th October to the 13h November. This is the Main time during which the Legion fund raises to obtain the fund to support our Hero’s and their families.
Last year a ceremony was held at the start of the remembrance period at the war Graves in Hunstanton cemetery and Poppy Crosses were laid on each grave by the Scouts and Guides organisations. This act of remembrance has become very favourable. A similar service will take place again this year on the Saturday 29th of October at 11am. In the evening of the 29th October there will be a LEST WE FORGET CONCERT and Service in the Town Hall starting at 7pm TICKET £5 AVAILABLE FROM WITLEY’S NEWS AGENTS
The Town Council, in conjunction with the Royal British Legion, will be holding the Remembrance parade and service, the two minutes silence and the laying of wreath at the Town Cenotaph at 11.00am on Remembrance Sunday the 13th November, this year the procedure will be the same as has now become the custom.
The parade will assemble at the United Services Club at 10.15 and be ready to move off at 10.35 so as to be in position at the Town Cenotaph in time for 11.00 am, when the names of the Towns Hero’s will be read out. After the laying of the wreaths the parade will then march to St Edmunds Church for a service of Remembrance. Anyone wishing to take part in the parade and the march to the Cenotaph please be at the United Services club in good time.
As has been the custom for many years now the Legion will be holding the two minutes silence in Hunstanton High Street at 11.00 am on Friday the 11th November. We look forward to the Towns support on this occasion, as we have had in the past.
Wear your Poppy with Pride
