SEP 11 Hunstanton Lifeboat Guild

John Marrow

I must apologise for the absence of news recently, we have had some changes and now I’m going to have a go at the Press officers job. Hi I’m John Marrow and am honoured to help in the work of the RNLI Hunstanton and West Norfolk Lifeboat Guild ,the charity that saves lives at sea.

Fundraising continues at a pace, so that we can continue to keep our new Atlantic 85 IRB,

“Spirit of West Norfolk” and the Hovercraft “Hunstanton Flyer” operational, maintain equipment and the crews’ kit and training kept up to required standard. RNLI has no Government funding and so is solely dependant on bequests, voluntary contributions and donations, as well as sales of gifts at the shop and show stands.

Speaking of which, Holkham show was sadly down on sales mainly due to the dreadful weather on the Saturday, however it did improve on the Sunday and some of the lost ground was made up.

At the quintessential English country flower show ….Sandringham, RNLI stand made just shy of £1800.00….A Record!. Grateful thanks to all who purchased gifts and donated. A special well done and thank you to Gilly and her team who man the shop and show stands.

The flagship event “Another Lazy Sunday Afternoon” was anything but lazy, just shy of £3000.00 was raised. In spite of high winds all was ready in time, mouth-watering food BBQed and served by stalwart volunteers, and an excellent bar. Highlights included an auction for an excellent landscape painting by Jeremy Barlow, a raffle for many generous donated prizes one of which was a Hamper of wines and spirits. All this and more to the melodic dulcet tones of the “Cocktail Jazz Band”.

Future upcoming events include: Coffee and Cards, Christmas Market and the Fisherman’s Supper.

More news soon and please would you remember to support RNLI on Flag Days. Also the Gift Shop will be open all summer including Sundays.

Sunday mornings is good time to call in, meet the crews, see the boat and hovercraft, even see them out on Sea Training or Exercises.

This 24/7 emergency service is mounted by the RNLI and have to ensure that the volunteers, who put their lives in harms way to rescue others, are properly equipped and trained. Please give generously and keep us on track raising our share of the £148 million income needed by RNLI nationally to maintain and improve the current state of readiness.
