JAN 11 Hunstanton Lions Club
Peter Mills
Well it’s very nearly the end of 2010, and we’ve had a very successful year. We are now looking forward to next year but firstly we have to report on what happened just recently. In the beginning of December we held our “Turkey & Tinsel” lunches for our senior citizens and what a success that was. From Monday to Thursday we served around 350 meals of fine festive fayre. Our thanks go to Nick, Sam, and Amy Fox at the Green Lodge Restaurant for providing the excellent food. We again also have to thank that the marvellous team from “Mars in the Community”. These grand people turned up to help us serve and clear up. They are all volunteers who work for “Mars”. We only know the bars of chocolate they have provided us with for years, but they are now a huge organisation. Many of their staff help various charities and organisations during their work hours and outside of them, and we again were lucky to have their support. We expect to repeat “Turkey & Tinsel” next year. It’s a great way of getting people together and creating a community spirit.
In the beginning of December we also raised over £200.00 outside “Tesco” and thank “Tesco” for allowing us to be in their foyer, and all of you who gave so generously.
At the time of writing we are just starting our famous “Grotto” in the basement of the Town Hall. We expect this and the “Christmas Fair” to be as successful as ever and will report on them in the next edition of this Newsletter.
Looking forward into 2011 we have our first “Lions International Golf Tournament” on Friday May 20th at Heacham Manor Hotel and Golf Course. This will be a fine day of Golf with breakfast and lunch included. What better way of taking a day off from work, enjoy yourself and raise money for Charity. There will be many sponsors on this day and we have to give special thanks to Messes “Hughes”, that great digital and electrical store in our High Street for being a main sponsor. Full details on the day are available from Amanda on 01485 534481 (Email CLOAKING ).
In July we are helping with an outdoor presentation of “Pride and Prejudice” at the Glebe School. Details of this will be in future editions of this Newsletter together with what we may be doing in conjunction with the forthcoming “Royal Wedding”, so keep your eyes peeled. We will soon be asking new members to join our “200 Club”. There are prizes of £100.00, £50.00, and two of £25.00 each month, so well worth joining. The lucky winners in December were John Henshaw, Clive Grinwood, Stephen Holt and Luke Parris. Congratulations to you all.
Hunstanton Lions wish you all a very happy and peaceful New Year.
