MAR 10 MAYOR'S REMARKS
By Cllr Christine Earnshaw, Mayor of Hunstanton
Taken in the newly refurbished Marine Hotel the photo shows that there are business people who have every confidence in Hunstanton and have been pleased to open new businesses or invest in existing ones. They are without exception very confident in their enterprises and have been pleased with their early day achievements showing that Hunstanton people welcome new business, places to shop or experience a good meal.
Cherry Hill Chocolates was bound to be a winner with Christmas and Valentine's Day presents. When you next call in ask to see the letter from the Queen!
Anita already had a following but has picked up new customers at her Westgate Salon where you will receive a warm welcome.
The same can be said of a visit to Rounce and Evans who are looking for places to let for people who want to live here year round and not just be offered winter tenancies.
Michelle has plans for Lesley's Lingerie, not least a name change and is pleased to measure up for a good fitting bra. I wonder how many of us women have never been properly fitted.
Glynis, of course, is known to the town but has reopened the Marine Hotel and Bar. The decor is new and has returned to a cosy traditional style. The premises next to World of Fun are being extended and I'm looking forward to seeing their new range of interesting gifts and jewellery this summer. With M & Co opening in the High Street there should be a lot more to interest the town and visitors.
It would be unfair to make out that all is well in Hunstanton's shopping area. If I could wave that magic wand the old garage site would be a thriving area of shops, not cafes or takeaways, we have an abundance of those already.
Parking enforced to 45 minutes or as per the signs would help the footfall through the shopping area. High rents, valuations and rates are another issue but all of these are being discussed by your Town and Borough Councils. Now that Unitary has been decided upon there is scope for progress after years of procrastination.
