MAR 10 HUNNY BY NAME, SUNNY BY NATURE
By Joy Webb
The hardest winter for years. Hunstanton businesses struggling, residents worrying over heating costs, among other things. Not an easy time. And yet, when the earthquake struck Haiti, thousands of miles away, what an outpouring of compassion, what a desire to do something to help filled our little town!
As early as 30th January this found a practical expression when members of our churches, and the WI, got together to run the Help for Haiti bring-and-buy Pound Sale, held in the beautifully refurbished premises of the Methodist Church. As well as a fantastic selection of gifts from individuals, we also received generous donations from the following businesses:
The Attic, Blueriver Cove, The Card Box, The Community Shop, The Dental Practice, Fat Birds Don’t Fly, Hunstanton Models, Jackson’s, Legge’s, Paris Print, The Pet Shop, Sainsbury’s, Sunny Hunny Hardware, Top Cat and Tails, Traidcraft, The Wine Cellar & Deli, Witley’s, Wolfy’s.
This made for an excellent range of products for sale and, with everything priced at just £1, some real bargains! (If you missed it, kick yourself now!) It was a great social occasion, bringing so many people together but, much more important, it raised a staggering £506 for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal for Haiti.
This was a magnificent response; I would like to thank everyone who helped in any way, whether you donated beforehand, spent money on the day, baked cakes, served behind stalls, washed up or encouraged others along – you’re amazing! As for the businesses listed above, they deserve our support – let’s give them our custom!
