MAR 10 HUNSTANTON LIONS CLUB

By Peter Mills

After our really hectic December (and we mean hectic), January and February have been rather quiet. The overwhelming response to our “Grotto” was extremely satisfying but now with Spring fast approaching we’re getting ready for another busy year of activity. Our Car Boot Sales will be held on every other Sunday at the Glebe House School starting in the beginning of April. They start at 8.00am, so come early to snap up some of those bargains. We will also be holding some Car Boot Sales in Snettisham this year. Full details of all of these will be in the next edition of the Hunstanton Newsletter.

We’ve lots of other activities in the pipeline which we will be letting you know about. We are hoping to arrange a special talk to celebrate the anniversary of “D Day”, so watch out for news on that together with lots of other things. We will be at the “Hunstanton Carnival” in the summer, and be holding our (now annual) “Open Bowls Championship” in August at Old Hunstanton Social Club. This is always a great weekend to bring the whole family to. Please remember that we are not just interested in Hunstanton, our area extends from Brancaster via Docking and Sedgeford to Dersingham, and all the villages enclosed along the coast, so if you want us to be involved at your village’s event, or think we can help anyone, let us know.

Just recently Lions International sent $1.5 million US to Haiti in the aftermath of the tragic earthquake there, and the European branch sent £14000.00 as well. There will be more financial help sent from both organisations after needs have been properly identified. Because Lions International is based in nearly every country in the world, they have access to large sums very quickly. If anyone is interested in the work and aid provided by Lions International, please let us know.

“200 Club”. Our 200 Club is run by ‘friends of Hunstanton Lions’. This is extremely important to us to enable us to keep going and continue to raise those important funds for all the people and organisations we help. The ‘200 Club’ year has come to an end, but will start again in May. The monthly cash prizes are £100.00,  £50.00, and two at £25.00, so well worth getting. Draws are held every month from May to February. The cost of a number is only £15.00, and entries are available from Peter Sutton at Suttons Estate Agency, 29 High Street, Heacham, or any member of Hunstanton Lions. Now’s the time to get a ticket as it’s always oversubscribed.

The lucky winners in February were Paul Jones, Robbie Bloy, Mrs. R. Nobes, and Richard Bird. Well done all of you.

We hope that you will let us know of anyone or organisation that we may be able to help. If you don’t tell us, we can’t.
