FEB 10 LAVENDER HILL MOB THEATRE COMPANY

By Sandra Hohol, Publicity Officer

Before my report for the last month or so, we have some sad news. One of our Chaperones and committee members, Tash Goodman, sadly passed away very suddenly, but peacefully just before Christmas. She had battled bravely through cancer a few years ago and then just picked up a simple infection in November which she unfortunately could not fight. She was only thirty years old. She had a wicked sense of humour (which her daughter has inherited!), and held a bright and cheerful outlook on life. She was a fighter - nothing was going to get her down and she became a good friend to us all. We thank her for being a valued part of the LHMTC and our hearts go out to her family. She will be greatly missed by everyone.

Christmas carol singing has come and gone (we had 11 events from mid October to end December, plus a few private ones too!) and now just when we thought the youngsters and us adults could have bit of respite for a few weeks at least to get our breath back, we have the rehearsals soon to start for the Easter Panto, Aladdin. Note for your diaries please, 1,2 3 April – matinees and evening performances so please support us and the Princess Theatre. Tickets from the Booking Office 01485 532252 – it may be the last Panto at the Theatre! Oh no it won’t!! Oh yes it will! Oh.......????

Talking of Christmas (it does not go away that easily!) we have a big ‘THANK YOU’ to say to Hunstanton Lions who made it possible for us to give our youngsters a lovely Christmas Party. They did us proud! We had traditional games, party food of course and not forgetting the ‘Secret Santa’ presents and a visit from the man himself!! Thank you also to members of our Youth Forum for shopping, cooking and organising for the party – and yes they were supervised by an adult – Mike Miles, Jaimie Goodman, Elliot Blunsdon, James Hohol and everyone else involved in the kitchens and the tidying up!!

For those people out there who want to become a ‘Friend’ of LHMTC, our own Newsletter will be out shortly, once we have verified dates for information. You have not been forgotten! And if anyone wishes to receive a copy of our Newsletter, please contact me on the details below. We already have bookings for at least 8 events for the forthcoming year and at the time of writing this we are only a few dates into the New Year!

I may have covered this already since writing in the Newsletter, but I think we should spare a thought for those in organisations who do a great deal above their ‘ordinary’ lives. Some folk think that just because these people ‘do not work’ or spend all their time ‘at home’, they have all the time in the world. Maybe so, but besides being a voluntary ‘hand’ in an organisation, households and families do not run or look after themselves. We all know the details and time involved in this. Working people have less time, which is our greatest enemy and in this fast pace world of increasing technology and lifestyle, time certainly ‘waits for no man’. So please consider those ‘volunteers’ (whether they work or not) who find the time to arrange meetings and attend others, arrange workshops, events, write music, scripts, do the insurmountable paperwork and make endless telephone calls, make orders, work out rotas, resolve problems, write and make speeches etc, etc. This small list of jobs is just the tip of the iceberg! These people do have a life and families outside their ‘organisations’. They have to continuously and relentlessly slot their voluntary work into their ‘everyday’ lives so that others can benefit in various ways; be it a poetry society, cubs, scouts, Carnival, Women’s Institute, Christmas Cracker and Christmas Swim for example. Not forgetting whether it is run on a daily, weekly or monthly basis or one annual event. Obviously the more frequent, the more thought and time is required. So I suggest to those who believe that the ones who do not work as I mentioned above, please rethink what these very busy people do for you and yours for the future events to come in the year ahead. They do it, because they are able to and enjoy it. No wages as a ‘thank you’ but the pleasure in achieving and succeeding in what they do for others.

Just a reminder – Meetings for everyone, aged 4 upwards – no matter what ability or disability, capability or background – EVERYONE IS WELCOME!! Even if you cannot sing or act – you will be surprised at what you may be able to achieve and there are no auditions. The first night is free and thereafter only £1 per night and there are no hidden extras! Monday is Dance and Movement, 5 – 8pm, Tuesdays are Workshops for everyone 5 – 7pm and Wednesday nights are ‘Writing and Devising’ for acting techniques and writing plays 5 – 8pm. All held at St Edmunds Church Hall, Church Street, Hunstanton (behind the church).
