FEB 10 EDITOR'S LETTER
Last year I was lucky enough to be given a lemon tree for my birthday, and one of the features of citrus trees is that they carry flowers, developing, and ripe fruits all at the same time. So far we have harvested seven lemons, the next one is ripe and ready for our pancakes on Shrove Tuesday which this year falls on 16th February. Are your frying pans at the ready?
I remember the pancake races that used to be held in the High Street; certainly into the 1990’s and I think they were organised by the Lions, and George Rains in particular. Does anyone have memories or photographs of this?
The 14th February is Valentine’s Day. The traditional cards, chocolates, jewellery and flowers are all available from our local shops and many of our local restaurants have special menus for this important day. So no excuses, eh?!
Thank you to everyone who sent in updated details for the clubs and what’s on pages. The new listings are in the centre pages of the magazine this month, so you can pull them out easily for future reference.
The delivery team did a magnificent job getting the Newsletter out to you in all the snow in January and I’d like to send special thanks to them.
Thanks also to Margaret for her typing and Viv for the snowdrops on this month’s cover.
Our advertisers supply all the funding for the newsletter so I hope that you will support them by choosing their products and services.
Your letters, articles and items for inclusion are always welcome, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Have a great February.
