JAN 10 TOWN MINIBUS

By Andrew Murray

Readers will remember that an article in the November Issue of the Newsletter asked:

"Do you have difficulty getting to the Shops, Library or Doctors ?

Would a Town Circular Minibus Service help you?

As a result of that article, one person who is an experienced minibus driver and six potential users of the service made contact.

The first trial run of the service on Wednesday 16th. December, brought four people from different areas of the town to the centre.

One person went to the library and the coffee morning at the Union Church, one went to Sainsbury's and Boots and 2 more did some general shopping in the High Street. After about an hour, they were taken back to their homes.

The minibus belongs to the West Norfolk Community Transport Project and on this occasion was driven by their Transport Manager, Mr. Barry Langley.

The aims of the scheme are twofold. Firstly to make it easier for elderly people with limited mobility to have access to the shopping centre, library and health facilities and secondly by reducing the need for local residents to use their own vehicles, reduce the congestion in the town centre.

The need for this type of service is being evaluated and further trial runs will take place in January. If you think the service could help you, please telephone and leave a message with Andrew Murray, Hunstanton Civic Society, on 01485 532376 or alternatively with the West Norfolk Transport Project on 01553 770310.
