JAN 10 MAYOR'S REMARKS

By Cllr Christine Earnshaw, Mayor of Hunstanton

With the Christmas season now virtually over most of us will be resuming our thoughts to the serious matter of how to make 2010 as good a year as possible in spite of the financial climate of gloom and doom. The Town Council has a number of issues to discuss with the Borough and County which will affect us all.

Consideration is being given to reversing the one-way system along Beach Terrace Road to allow traffic to enter the Car Park by turning left before Le Strange Terrace and into a new entrance.  This makes good sense as it will surely relieve a huge volume of traffic from circling that area.

There are plans at last to develop the Kit Kat site, a project well overdue in the minds of people who remember the days of a popular night club.  More on this when more is revealed.

You may be interested to know that our County Councillors will soon be considering whether to allow part night lighting to be introduced. This change would enable lights to be switched off from approximately midnight to 5am (or 1am to 6am during British Summer Time). You Town Council will discuss this in January and feed our thoughts back to County.  This could affect 389 lights in Hunstanton but I should point out that the County mainly controls the lighting of the main roads.  I will be interested to see if the Borough Council will follow suit.  Do you agree that such a saving would make sense?  I would be interested to hear your comments.

Sainsbury’s fundraising for the Mayors Basement Appeal can’t have missed your notice unless you always shop out of town that is. At the time of writing they have raised an amazing £950 with the draw for the hamper on Friday 18th  December.  An enormous thank you to Sainsbury staff for organising this.

Finally, Happy New Year to one and all.
