JAN 10 LAVENDER HILL MOB THEATRE COMPANY

By Sandra Hohol – Publicity Officer

November has been busy – we had the Christmas Cracker – very wet, but everyone soldiered on!  Turkey and Tinsel at Searle’s set sail to be a traditional carol evening but when Hunstanton Concert Band and the Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company joined forces, there was no stopping either group!  Neither had rehearsed what the audience heard and saw, we all just played it by ‘ear’ and ‘went with the flow’!   The holidaymakers joined in with the carols and a few joined our Artistic Director on the floor with some jiving!!  Together LHMTC and the band livened up the evening with their lively playing and singing, not forgetting the ‘signing’ of a few carols which the youngsters learn as soon as they join us.  Our Musical Director even brought out his cornet and joined in with the Band!  It was an enjoyable evening, so thank you for inviting us, to both events that weekend.

Kings Lynn Art’s Centre’s Christmas Fayre was also wet and the very kind ladies in one of the stalls let us stand underneath her canopy to sing carols to passers by.  Millbridge Nursing Home was a pleasure as the folk there love to listen to the children carol singing. (Thanks for the lovely cake – sorry for the crumbs!!)

A mad dash after school to the King’s Centre in King’s Lynn for some more carol singing and then back to Hunstanton and St Edmunds Church for the Masonic Carol Service.  Many carols were sung with the organist and Hunstanton Concert Band and again our Musical Director showed off his skills with the Band – his loyalties changed that night!  I think it gave him a rest from setting up our own equipment as all we had to do was sing with everyone else.  Again the Band stepped up the tempo at the end when the mulled wine was served (no, the wine was not the cause of this!) and ‘mingling’ took place. Lavender Hill were joining in too – a thoroughly enjoyable evening!  There were spare pews in the church so next year please come along and support this service – it is not starchy, boring and cold and if you think it is not ‘you’, think again, it’s Christmas and there is no carol singing any more unless you go to an event; it gets you into the spirit of the time of year and the service is only an hour! Plus sausage rolls, mince pies and wine to look forward to afterwards – can’t be bad!

Our next presentation is show at Park House at Sandringham, which is quite scary as there may be Royalty present – they never know who may pop in!!  I will report back next month on this one!!!

Finally, a quick thank you to all at Martin Folkes Lodge for Freemasons for your very kind donation – it is much appreciated!
