JAN 10 GREETINGS FROM THE MANSE

The service of rededication of Hunstanton Methodist Church on Saturday 28th November 2009 was a very happy and I like to think important event for the worshipping congregation and for our town of Hunstanton. The service was led by the President of the Methodist Conference, the Rev. David Gamble. We were pleased to welcome the Town Mayor, Christine Earnshaw and consort, Parish and Borough councillors, clergy and members of other denominations in Hunstanton. In all 160 folks were present at the rededication.

We hope of course that many many more will want to come and worship and enjoy fellowship at the refurbished church and to continue to use the hall and rooms for groups and bookings. The concept and the vision that drove us was to create a stronger link between the church and the community, symbolised in the physical link between the church and the hall.

We wanted space, light, comfort, warmth and brightness to express something about the God revealed in Jesus who welcomes and befriends and longs for us to know Him in a life of joy and peace, love and care. Whether we have succeeded depends not on the architectural merits of the building or the design of the new furniture, but whether people will take the risk of coming in just as have we the confidence and energy to go out and reveal the God who loves, and tell of what he has done for us.

From the pages of the Old Testament the prophet Samuel took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer,” the stone of help,” for he said, "Up to this point the Lord has helped us The Lord has certainly helped us. But we didn’t feel called to renaming the church Ebenezer!

For Samuel and Israel the stone was a symbol of a new beginning, a rededication and commitment to God and the things of God. Samuel placed this large stone, this Ebenezer, at the place of this new beginning. And as the people got on with their lives, the stone stood there, visible to all who passed that way, lest it be forgotten the human need for God, fellowship, love and forgiveness. As the people stood next to the stone it said to them that God was faithful and his love and forgiveness are forever.

Morning service is at 10.30pm each Sunday. You will be made most welcome. Come and your raise your Ebenezer at the beginning of the New Year!

With every blessing

Kim Nally
