DEC 09 A GOOD BOOK FOR CHRISTMAS?

By Alan Warren

I have read many books about science and religion over the years but this is something rather special. 18 eminent scientists have each written a short and readable chapter about their faith and their work. So the book is more about personal experiences than clever arguments and is, at times, quite moving  -  such as when John Wyatt, the distinguishes Neonatal professor and consultant, admits to weeping with the parents as he held a dead baby in his arms. Two UEA professors add a little local flavour to the book. The overall impact of these 18 testimonies is to give massive support to the idea that a thoughtful faith makes good scientific sense of our world and of our human lives. To all, whatever their faith or lack of faith, I recommend this fascinating book. (Real Scientists Real Faith: R J Berry,
