NOV 09 HUNSTANTON & DISTRICT CHAMBER OF TRADE

By James Johnson

The Christmas Cracker event is gaining pace (details on page 29) and whilst I’m on the subject of Christmas, we are currently looking at new and additional lighting for the town and are working in conjunction with the Borough Council to devise a scheme that will enhance the town centre area and have a longer life. We are very grateful for the support we get from the Borough Council especially Alistair Cox and Sheena Carmen who put in a tremendous amount of work.

There is nothing to report on Tesco’s proposal for an extension on the “sheep field” area. When we do have further information we will report it in this newsletter. But if you want to know first hand why not join the chamber. We are now a voice to be heard.

We recently had a presentation of the Britain in Bloom by the Borough Council and it was fantastic to see all the areas of improvement that led to the town gaining Silver Gilt which is second place and the judges hinted that we would have won

but for the town centre’s lack of colour.

We are now talking to the Borough Council with regard to the shops having floral arrangements at ground level which can be put away at night. This will be at no cost to the shopkeepers other than taking them in each night and bringing them out every morning. What a great idea!

If you are interested in joining the chamber and we hope you are as the more members we have the stronger our representation we have at local and national level, then please call me on 01485 534948 ,e mail  CLOAKING      Even if you are not in business we would still like to hear your views.
