NOV 09 TRANSPORT IN HUNSTANTON
Do you have difficulty getting to the Shops, Library or Doctors? Would a Town Circular Minibus Service help you?
The Hunstanton Civic Society is having discussions with the West Norfolk Community Transport Project about the possibility of organising a minibus service within the town of Hunstanton. We wish to evaluate the demand for such a service and request that if it could help you, please telephone and leave a message with Andrew Murray on 01485 532376 or alternatively with the West Norfolk Transport Project on 01553 770310
The minibus vehicles carry up to 16 passengers and have facilities for disabled persons. Initially, we envisage the service operating for about 4 hours per day on one or two days per week. During that time the minibus would go on a flexible figure of 8 route from the town centre southwards past Tesco through the Bennett's estate then northwards through the town centre to Lighthouse Lane and return to the town centre. There may be fixed stopping places in the town centre but elsewhere along the route, the minibus would stop anywhere that it is safe so to do. It will take some 30 or 40 minutes for each circuit depending on the number of stops.
The minibus would not compete with the First Bus Group Services or those provided by Norfolk Green. We would be looking for volunteer drivers whose driving license includes category D1.
The aims of this scheme are firstly to decrease congestion in the town centre by reducing the need for local residents to use their own vehicles to go to the shops, health centre or library and secondly to make access to the services easier for the increasing number of elderly people whose mobility is limited.
