OCT 09 POSH CANARY NOTES
By John Maiden
After that record-breaking 7-1 home defeat to Colchester United, Norwich City wasted no time in persuading the U's manager, Paul Lambert, to take over the managerial vacancy at Carrow Road caused by the dismissal of Canary legend, Bryan Gunn following that disastrous start to the season.
My initial reaction was to think how much more simple life would be if council leaders and senior officers could be sacked just as quickly when they lose millions of pounds by mismanagement of public assets, but that is a topic for another Newsletter column [the Editor willing]...
Back to football and the immediate impact Paul Lambert made when the Canaries knocked over the 'Chairboys' of Wycombe in an emphatic 5-2 win to mark the new manager's first game in charge.
This was followed by three clean sheets, in victories over Brentford (Johnstone's Paint Trophy) and Hartlepool, followed by a goal-less draw at home to Walsall.
The Canaries should have been awarded a penalty against the 'Saddlers' and were even more unlucky not to get one when they were winning 1-0 at MK Dons, where they eventually lost 2-1 thanks to a very dubious penalty decision in favour of the Dons.
Not forgetting the 'Posh' element in these notes, it has to be said that Peterborough United are still looking for their first win in the Championship. In spite of that fact they are still doing better than the 'Tractor Boys', so what is the betting that Roy Keane will have left Ipswich Town before the 'Posh Canary' makes his next appearance in the Newsletter; unless of course he too has been fired in the meantime for hitting the wrong notes?
