SEP 09 BOY'S HIGH SCHOOL?

 By Ken Arnott

A gentleman from Nottingham has written to me asking if I or anyone else had knowledge of ‘a Boys’ high School’ in Cliff Terrace around 1901, when the Master was a Mr John Page and the Assistant Master was a Mr Charles Sturey.

It was a small private school with fourteen boys, all boarders, aged 10-14, among them a Samuel E Weston, the father of my correspondent Mr Geoff Weston of 8 Cranbourne Close Nottingham NG9 3RH.

HE quotes the school’s address as 132 Cliff Terrace (no such number exists nowadays) but adds that it was next door to Victoria House, a lodging house run by his uncle and aunt, Mr George Hinton and his wife Lucy, who Mr Weston thinks had two children named Maisie and May (Mary).

If anyone has any knowledge of the school or the family names I am sure Mr Weston would be delighted to hear from them.

Hunstanton has had many schools in the past - I can think of at least ten – but this is a new one to me.

On second thoughts, I would love to learn about the school too, so if anyone would like to contact me I could pass on the information to Mr Weston.
