SEP 09 A WHOLE YEAR OF SEMPTEMBER!
By Robert Coleman & Dave Hawkins
Titchwell Marsh RSPB
Titchwell Marsh is a great place to visit at any time of year, but for us September is the highlight of the whole year. There are still a few lingering summer visitors around to enjoy such as swallows and warblers, at the beginning of the month wading bird migration is at it’s peak and by month end winter visitors such as pink-footed geese begin to arrive in numbers. Throw in the chance of a few rare birds driven here by autumn storms and it is easy to see why many bird watchers wish the whole year was made of September!
This September is particularly exciting not just on the bird front but also because we are well into the first phase of the Titchwell Coastal Project. This year the work concentrates on rebuilding the Parrinder wall and this should finish at the end of October. The shop, nature trails and access to the beach remain fully open in this period. Our guided walk programme continues to run as normal and there are free 90-minute walks each month to explain the project and how we are going to save the reserve from the sea. For the very latest information, we now have a notice board outside the visitor centre giving daily updates on the progress of the project. If you are interested in seeing the reserve at this exciting time of year then please pay us a visit or better still book on a guided walk by calling the visitor centre on Tel 01485 210779.
