SEP 09 ROYAL BRITISH LEGION NEWS
By David Foulkes
The sponsored walk to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings started at Heacham War Memorial where we observed a two minute silence and the exhortation was read. From there we progressed to Heacham Social club to be met by the Borough Mayor and Mayoress together with committee member Mrs Campbell. After a short refreshment break we walked to Hunstanton via the Fox and Hounds and the West Norfolk collecting en-route, and I should like to thank everyone who made donations.
We arrived in Hunstanton around 5.15pm after visiting the Waterside and the Wash and Tope and again thank you to everyone who supported us.
Our next stop was Supafry Fish and Chips where refreshments were given before we were welcomed by the Conservative Club where a further £89.80 was raised.
At 8.30pm we were greeted by Hunstanton Mayor Councillor Christine Earnshaw and United Services Club members.
The money has been counted and the walk raised £411 which has been added to the £1024.87 from the sponsored bike ride, so the total of £1435.87 will be given to the Poppy Appeal.
