Thomas Smith age 10
Thomas Smith age 10
Thomas started skiing on a board behind a Jet Ski in 2003 at the age of 6. The following year he progressed to skiing on pairs (2 skis). Thomas's team is an all family affair and in late 2005 his grandfather bought a new 19ft Bernico boat with a 150hp engine for him to start skiing behind.
On June 16th 2006 Thomas progressed to a mono ski and the following week he entered the Diamond race at Viersel in Belgium. This is the top waterski racing event held in Europe every year which the top skiers from all over the world travel to compete in.
During 2006 Thomas competed in the majority of the national races traveling to places such as Stone, Cardiff, Weston Super Mare and of course his home club Hunstanton. By the end of his first season racing he was the British Waterski Federation Bambino Champion.
So far this year he has won the first two rounds on the national circuit at Allhallows in Kent and at Hunstanton. His next port of call will be Viersel, Belgium where he will be competing in the Euro Kids, a category for up to twelve years of age.
Since 2005 Thomas has also competed in most club races held at Hunstanton. Thomas uses a D C ski and bindings which is supplied by Danny Cropper of Australia (this brand of equipment is used by a lot of the top skiers)
Thomas has an ambition to become Men’s World formula one champion as his hero Todd Haig from the USA did at Hunstanton in 2005.
